National Guard To The Rescue… Again

CAVALIER COUNTY, ND (trfnews.i234.me) It was the National Guard to the rescue again in Cavalier County, North Dakota.

– North Dakota National Guard used 2 Blackhawk helicopters to place sandbags on the Burnaby Dam
– Over 200 one-ton sandbags were placed to prevent the dam from washing out in eastern Cavalier County
– A Chinook helicopter from a Minnesota-based company was brought in
– The Chinook was able to lift two five-ton water pumps to lower the level of the dam
– This was done to reduce the hazard
– In April 2009, a Minnesota National Guard Chinook assisted during statewide flooding by placing one-ton sandbags at the Clawson Springs Dam near Catherine, North Dakota
– The rescue was carried out to prevent damage caused by flooding

The North Dakota National Guard has used two Blackhawk helicopters and a Chinook helicopter to prevent the Burnaby Dam from washing out in eastern Cavalier County. Over 200 one-ton sandbags were placed on the dam to prevent it from washing out. In addition, a Chinook helicopter from the St. Paul-based Minnesota Company B was brought in to lift two five-ton water pumps to lower the dam’s level to reduce the hazard. This is not the first time that the National Guard has assisted with flood prevention, in April 2009, a Minnesota National Guard Chinook placed one-ton sandbags at the Clawson Springs Dam near Catherine, North Dakota during statewide flooding.
