Motorist Penalized $11,000 for Causing Historic Bridge Collapse Near Northwood, ND

NORTHWOOD, ND (trfnews.i234.me) A driver has been fined $11,000 for collapsing an historic bridge near Northwood, North Dakota with an oversized load.
this just in from the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department today Monday at 1:15 p.m. Michael Dodge was driving a 2005 Peterbilt truck pulling a trailer loaded with dry beans west on 3rd Avenue north east south west of Northwood North Dakota approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Northwood the truck traveled over a 56 foot long restricted weight bridge over the goose river the bridge collapsed and the trailer became hung up in the West abutment the bridge was rated for 14 tons gross weight with restrictions and it was marked it was built in 1906 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places Dodd’s weight was just over 43 tons or eighty six thousand seven hundred fifty pounds the overload fine was eleven thousand four hundred dollars Dodd’s was uninjured due to the bridge being out 3rd Avenue North East is closed between 36th Street northeast and a thirty seventh Street northeast the estimated replacement cost of the bridge is between eight hundred thousand to one million dollars the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the North Dakota Highway Patrol County Highway Department and interstate towing the incident remains under investigation I’m Neil Berg reporting for trfnews.i234.me

  1. Does the US Federal government have money for infrastructure? I think they do. Historic bridges. Maybe we need historic trucks. No windshields, candles in the headlights, No power steering no A/C. We will call it a historic truck. Ha Ha.
