ST. LOUIS – North Dakota State defensive tackle Eli Mostaert and running back CharMar Brown were named Missouri Valley Football Conference players of the week by the league office Monday, Sept. 30, for their performances in the 42-10 road win over Illinois State.
Mostaert, a senior from Lakeville, Minn., was named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. He had two of NDSU’s five sacks as the Bison limited the Redbirds to eight net rushing yards and 4 of 12 on third down. Mostaert’s sack on the second play of the game helped set the tone for the day as Illinois State went three-and-out on its first two possessions. He finished with three total tackles.
Brown, a redshirt freshman from Omaha, Neb., was named Newcomer of the Week for the second time this year. He led NDSU in rushing for the third straight game picking up 100 yards on 17 carries (5.9 ypc) with one touchdown, a 14-yard run in the third quarter as the Bison pulled away with four straight touchdown drives in the second half. Coupled with his 126-yard game against Towson, he is the first NDSU player with back-to-back 100-yard rushing games since Kobe Johnson in 2022.
North Dakota State (4-1, 1-0 MVFC) is scheduled to host North Dakota (4-1, 1-0 MVFC) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
