Moorhead woman sentenced for throwing used tampon at Becker County jailer

Incident Overview

On April 10, a White Earth police officer responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in Waubun. Upon arrival, the officer observed a male lying in a ditch and Sturdevant seated on the roadside. The male fled the scene, while Sturdevant approached the officer’s vehicle. She exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol, and registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.22% on a preliminary breath test.

Assault Incident

While detained at the Becker County Jail, Sturdevant, during a routine search, threw a used tampon at a jailer, striking her. This act led to the felony charge of assaulting a peace officer.

Sentencing Details

On March 24, Sturdevant was sentenced to 15 days in the Becker County Jail, with credit for two days already served. She is required to report to the jail by April 11. The court authorized participation in Sentence to Service and Huber Work Release programs. Sturdevant was placed on four years of supervised probation, with successful completion potentially reducing the conviction to a misdemeanor. Conditions of her probation include refraining from possessing or using firearms, ammunition, explosives, drugs, alcohol, or mood-altering chemicals, except for prescribed medications. She was also fined $500 plus $160 in court fees.
