Moorhead Woman Charged with Attempted Murder After Meth-Fueled Attack

MOORHEAD, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Authorities in Moorhead, Minnesota, have filed charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault against Mary Hjelseth following a brutal incident on the evening of August 15, 2024. According to the criminal complaint, Hjelseth, after consuming methamphetamine and engaging in sexual activity with her boyfriend, allegedly slashed his neck with a buck knife.

The incident took place at approximately 10:48 PM, when Moorhead police were dispatched to a residence on 20th Street South. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim holding a towel to his neck, suffering from a 3 to 4-inch laceration. The victim identified Hjelseth as the assailant, stating that she attacked him from behind while he was on the couch, believing she was about to kiss him.

Following the attack, Hjelseth fled the scene, and the victim was rushed to a local hospital for emergency surgery. A subsequent search of the residence uncovered evidence, including an empty knife sheath and other personal items belonging to Hjelseth. Video footage from the apartment building also captured her fleeing the scene with an item in her hand.

The case is now under intense investigation as Hjelseth faces serious charges for this violent act.
