Moorhead Man, Peter K. Mayuot, Charged with Felony Sexual Assault After Alleged Attack

Moorhead, Minnesota – Peter K. Mayuot has been formally charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual conduct after an alleged sexual assault against a vulnerable adult on February 19, 2025.

Incident Details:

According to the statement of probable cause:

  • Law enforcement responded to a report of sexual assault in the early morning hours.
  • The victim, an adult receiving in-home care, was questioned by aid workers after they noticed bruises and scratches on her body.
  • The victim reported that her roommate, Peter K. Mayuot, had tried to rape her.

Allegations Against Mayuot:

  • The victim reported she was asleep at approximately 3:00 a.m. when she woke up to Mayuot straddling her and biting her lip.
  • Mayuot was naked and told the victim, “I’m horny”, while holding her down.
  • He allegedly bit the victim’s breast, pulled down her underwear, and attempted to force himself on her.
  • The victim struggled and pushed him away multiple times before he eventually stopped and became angry, yelling obscenities at her.

Charges Filed:

Mayuot now faces two felony charges:

  1. Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Contact
  2. Attempted First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Penetration or Use of Force

Potential Legal Consequences:

A conviction for first-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct in Minnesota carries a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison, while a second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge can result in up to 25 years in prison.

Mayuot is currently in custody as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
