On the evening of May 18, 2025, at approximately 10:09 p.m., West Fargo police responded to a report of a shoplifter fleeing from the Menards located at 1300 13th Ave E. Officers quickly located and apprehended the suspect, identified as Robert John Donovan. Near the location of his arrest, authorities recovered stolen items valued at $133.

According to court documents, during the attempted theft, Donovan allegedly swung a piece of metal at a Menards loss prevention officer. This aggressive act elevated the charge to felony robbery. Additionally, upon his arrest, Donovan was found in possession of methamphetamine, leading to an additional misdemeanor charge for possession of a controlled substance.

Donovan now faces multiple charges, including felony robbery and misdemeanor drug possession. His actions have raised concerns about retail safety and the prevalence of drug-related offenses in the area.
