FARGO, Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man is facing a felony drug trafficking charge after a traffic stop in Fargo led to the discovery of meth and cash.

Court documents say the case began on November 12. An officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of 34th Street South. The vehicle had a burned-out brake light. The stop happened during daylight hours and appeared routine at first.

The driver was identified as David A. Vernoy of Moorhead. The officer spoke with Vernoy and observed behavior that raised concerns. The documents do not list the exact behavior that caused the officer to investigate further. Officers asked Vernoy to step out of the vehicle. A search followed.

Investigators say they found meth inside the vehicle during the search. They also found cash totaling $1,080. The documents do not list the weight of the meth. Police believed the amount suggested a possible distribution. Officers seized both the drugs and the cash.

Vernoy was taken into custody at the scene. Prosecutors have now charged him with felony possession with intent to deliver meth. The felony charge falls under North Dakota’s drug trafficking laws. A conviction on such a charge can bring significant prison time.

Court records show Vernoy has not yet entered a plea. A future court hearing will determine his status moving forward. Additional details may be released as the case progresses. Early records often contain limited information and may change as new reports are filed.

Meth remains a major issue in the region. The Drug Enforcement Administration provides general information on meth risks at this federal resource.

This is a developing criminal case. All defendants are presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
