Moorhead: Man Charged After Meth Found in Pocket

Moorhead, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) A Moorhead man faces a felony drug charge. Police say methamphetamine was found during his arrest.

Joshua David Thoreson, 45, of Moorhead, is charged with one felony count of fifth-degree drug possession. The charge alleges possession of a Schedule I, II, III, or IV drug. The case was filed in Clay County District Court on January 26, 2026.

911 calls reported yelling

According to the complaint, officers responded on January 23, 2026. The call came in around 11:05 a.m. The location was the 1500 block of 17th Street South in Moorhead.

Dispatch received several 911 calls. Callers reported a man was yelling for about ten minutes. The complaint says the yelling included “inappropriate things.”

When officers arrived, a mail carrier was nearby. The mail carrier directed officers to the address. Police then made contact with Thoreson, the complaint says.

Arrest and search

Police confirmed Thoreson had an active warrant from Clay County, the complaint says. Officers arrested him on that warrant.

Police searched him after the arrest, the complaint says. Officers said they found a small clear bag in his front right pocket. The complaint says the bag held a white crystal substance.

The substance weighed about 7.4 grams, police said. It later field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the complaint. Thoreson was then charged in this case.

Bail and conditions

Judge Leah DuCharme set bail at $2,000 with conditions, court records show. The judge also set $10,000 bail without conditions.

Release conditions include obeying all laws. They also include no use or possession of controlled substances.

The charge is an allegation. Thoreson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
