Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) — A Moorhead man is charged after a reported knife threat at an apartment building.
Ivan Lawrence Shipman, 64, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
The charge was filed on Wednesday in Clay County District Court.
The case involves two pest control workers, according to the criminal complaint.
Call reported at south Moorhead complex
The complaint says police were called to an apartment complex on 20th Street South.
The complaint lists the call time as about 2:29 p.m.
The workers told police they were there to spray for bugs.
They said they met Shipman at his apartment door.
Workers describe a tense hallway encounter
The workers said Shipman questioned who they were.
They said they showed him a business card.
The complaint says Shipman became angry and loud.
The workers said they moved to another unit down the hall.
They said they could still hear Shipman yelling from his apartment.
Knife allegation
The complaint says the workers later returned to the hallway.
They told police they then saw Shipman holding a knife.

The workers said they left the building before he reached them.
They told police he pointed the knife at them.
They said they feared he would stab them if he caught them.
Contact with the police
Officers later spoke with Shipman at his apartment, the complaint says.
The complaint says Shipman was upset during that contact.
Police said Shipman made statements about being close to breaking the law.
The complaint also lists an alleged statement about being ready to stab the workers.
Shipman also described ongoing problems at the complex, the complaint says.
He allegedly said he was ready to fight back.
Penalty range and custody status
Second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon is a felony in Minnesota.
The statute lists a maximum of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.
Shipman remains in custody, and a detention order was issued, the complaint says.
Charges are allegations and must be proven in court.
