Clay County (trfnews.i234.me): Moorhead Driver in Fatal Crash No Longer Employed
The man who was driving a Moorhead Public Works vehicle that struck and killed a 9-year-old boy in July is no longer employed by the city.
According to an email response obtained through an open records request by TRF News, 64-year-old Victor Port of West Fargo, who was operating a city-owned Mack truck, is no longer with the city. His final day of employment was listed as Wednesday, September 3.
The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of 14th Street and 40th Avenue South in Moorhead.
Authorities say Port’s truck hit Adam Amin as the child was riding his bicycle through the intersection.
Questions remain about whether Port had a valid commercial driver’s license at the time of the incident.
When TRF News specifically asked whether Port’s CDL was valid on July 31, the City of Moorhead declined to release that information.
In a written response, officials cited Minnesota Statute § 13.43, subd. 4, which classifies certain employment data as nonpublic.
As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the case.
The incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
The fatal crash sparked renewed public discussion about safety procedures for city vehicles and accountability in municipal operations. City officials have not commented further on personnel matters or the ongoing investigation.
