Minnesota to Vote on Sports Betting Bill Today

ST. PAUL, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Minnesota legislators are scheduled to vote on a new sports betting bill today. The bill, spearheaded by Rapids Democrat Zack Stevenson, is the result of a long-running effort to satisfy competing interests. It authorizes mobile sports betting licenses for Indian tribes with a 20% tax on proceeds and legalizes fantasy contests with a 10% tax. Additionally, it reduces tax rates on charitable gaming receipts starting in fiscal year 2025, provided tax revenues from sports betting and fantasy contests reach certain thresholds. Stevenson’s bill also prohibits historical horse racing (HHR) machines at Minnesota’s two horse tracks, overriding a recent decision by the Minnesota Racing Commission. However, it establishes an economic development account to benefit the tracks.
