The bill includes a red flag law to keep guns away from those deemed to have issues, as well as background checks on private gun sales. The legislation does not ban any type of weapon but instead introduces more controls on who has access to them. The aim of the bill is to enhance the safety of all Minnesotans and their communities. The Democratic Party has praised the bill, saying it will provide the funding and tools to stop crime, hold offenders accountable and bolster Minnesota’s court system. Additionally, the bill supports victims of crime, invests in mental health funds, youth intervention programs and the Department of Human Rights. The Senate Judiciary Committee chair and vice-chair were thanked for their leadership in getting the bill to the Senate floor. The debate now moves to the Minnesota House.

  1. Stupid democrats always forcing more rules and regulations on the people we're supposed to be a free people but you'd never know that by the way the democrats act

  2. Red flag laws dont violate other laws. That makes no sense. There is no "law" that says mentally ill people CAN have guns. You're trying to refer to the supreme court ruling where Clearance Thomas wrote the majority decision saying gun laws have to follow historical context. The supreme court does not make laws.

  3. Red Flag laws violate multiple other laws. Mainly due process. Background checks for private sales is also unconstitutional. The ATF has already proven to have a searchable database, a.k.a. a registry, based off of background checks.

  4. I think we already have a system of checks and balances in place. Make sure you read the fine print of this bill! In my estimation, they are attempting to pour taxpayers money into problems the current administration has fomented.
