Minnesota Sees Significant Increase in Influenza Cases and Hospitalizations

Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported a significant increase in influenza activity for the week ending January 11, 2025. There were 27 additional flu-related deaths, bringing the total to 50 for the current flu season. Additionally, 742 individuals were hospitalized due to influenza complications during this period.

The state also experienced ten influenza outbreaks in public schools and 14 in long-term care facilities during the same week. Health officials emphasize that it is not too late to receive a flu vaccination.

In neighboring Wisconsin, the first pediatric flu death of the season was reported on Thursday. As of this report, Minnesota has not recorded any pediatric influenza deaths this season.
