Minnesota Opens Adoption Records Access Next Month

ST. PAUL, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Minnesota is set to open access to original birth records for adopted individuals born in the state next month. State Registrar Molly Crawford explains that individuals can request their original birth records by filling out a request form and submitting it to the Minnesota Department of Health Office of Vital Records. Under the new law, a non-certified copy of the original birth record will be issued, containing information such as birth parent names, the individual’s name, place of birth, and date of birth. There is a $40 fee to receive these birth records. Additionally, parents who placed a child up for adoption can fill out a preference form to indicate their desire for contact with the adopted person.
