Minnesota DNR Weekly Conservation Officer Report Districts 1–4 Update — April 28, 2025

District 1 – Baudette Area

  • CO Ben Huener (Roseau): Checked turkey hunters in Roseau and Marshall Counties and pike anglers on Lake of the Woods; reported slow activity among both groups.

  • CO Tony Hams (Warroad North): Monitored turkey hunting and local angling activities.

  • CO Coby Fontes (Warroad South): Supervised spring beaver trapping and ATV activity. Multiple enforcement actions were taken for unchecked traps, trapping without a license, and illegal ATV operation.

  • CO Nicholas Prachar (Baudette West): Observed significant angling on Rainy River and 4 Mile Bay; issued citations for possession of an illegal-length sturgeon and burning without a permit.

  • CO Paul Kennedy (Baudette East): Patrolled Rainy River and Lake of the Woods during sturgeon season; assisted with illegal dumping and wetland ATV operation cases.

  • CO Sarah Jahn (Thief River Falls East): Taught Law and Ethics at firearm safety classes, attended a career fair, and monitored trapping activities.

  • CO Nick Bruesewitz (Karlstad): Focused on turkey hunting, shore angling, and wildlife complaints; responded to area fires and addressed invalid deer tag use.

  • CO Brice Vollbrecht (Blackduck North): Helped host a youth firearm safety field day and checked area creeks for fish runs; donated accidentally trapped otters to MTA fur project.

  • CO Brianna Shaw (Blackduck South): Assisted with youth firearm safety classes and conducted patrols for angling and recreational vehicle activity.

  • Thief River Falls West: Vacant.


District 2 – Bemidji Area

  • CO Tom Hutchins (Crookston): Checked anglers, turkey hunting, and trapping; addressed TIP 411 complaints and attended a Prairie Chicken meeting.

  • CO Andrew Ladzinski (Bemidji #1): Patrolled for ATV activity; handled calls for incidental otters, vehicle-killed eagles, and assisted on a grass fire.

  • CO Andrew Goodman (Perham): Monitored panfish anglers, sucker spearing, bowfishing, and public access issues.

  • CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes): Trained with K9 partner Axel and handled public calls.

  • CO Jordan Anderson (Osage): Responded to illegal fires, patrolled forests, and enforced laws against transporting loaded firearms and illegal burning.

  • CO William Landmark (Moorhead): Focused on beaver trapping checks and nuisance wildlife complaints; helped at a local ATV safety training event.

  • CO Angela Warren (Mahnomen): Worked on angling, leeching, fish runs, and patrolled WMAs/WPAs; assisted in locating a missing person.

  • CO Matthew Boyle (Pelican Rapids): Reported panfish preparing to spawn; reminded the public about burn permit requirements and spoke at a youth turkey hunt.

  • CO Brady Manteufel (Bagley): Addressed beaver damage, patrolled for turkey hunters and ATV activity, and participated in a Boy Scouts career fair.

  • CO Jamus Veit (Bemidji #2): Patrolled for ATV activity and checked spearing and rough fish angling.

  • CO Curtis Jepson (District #2): Patrolled closed fishing areas, monitored ATV use, and engaged scouts at Camp Wilderness career fair.


District 3 – Fergus Falls Area

  • CO Hanna Wood (Fergus Falls): Focused on angling, turkey hunting, RV usage, and public waters enforcement.

  • CO Tricia Plautz (Henning): Responded to a large wildfire, wildlife calls, and taught firearm safety.

  • CO Ryan Brown (Elbow Lake): Checked anglers, trappers, and turkey hunters; handled miscellaneous wildlife complaints.

  • CO Shane Osborne (Evansville): Enforced fishing, boating, ATV, and fish run activities; reminded about boat navigation light rules.

  • CO Jake Homan (Alexandria): Focused on shore fishing patrols and equipment maintenance.

  • CO Felicia Znajda (Osakis): Patrolled for anglers and ATV operators; handled dog-at-large complaints and nuisance animal calls.

  • CO Bobby Stringer (Wheaton): Reported successful shore fishing at Reservation Dam despite windy weather; investigated trespassing along Mustinka River.

  • CO Emily Douvier (Morris): Completed firearm safety class certification for 30 kids; trained on a new aviation camera system.

  • CO Daniel Baumbarger (Glenwood): Focused on fishing and turkey hunting enforcement; followed up on TIP complaints.


District 4 – Walker Area

  • CO Landyn Saewert (Wadena): Monitored ATV traffic and fish runs; enforced bowfishing licensing rules; handled stolen trap report.

  • CO Patrick McGowan (Walker): Worked Cass County lakes during spring fishing; investigated wildland arson fires.

  • CO Corey Sura (Remer): Checked spring panfish anglers and monitored beaver trapping and sturgeon fishing.

  • CO Levi Brown (Staples): Patrolled local lakes for angling; reminded the public to update fishing licenses.
