Brooklyn Park (trfnews.i234.me) – In one of the most horrifying and calculated attacks in Minnesota’s history, federal charges have been filed against 57-year-old Vance Luther Belter, who disguised himself as a police officer and stalked four state politicians with intent to murder. According to U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson, the chilling crime spree began in the early morning hours of June 14.
Belter first targeted State Senator John Hoffman at his Champlin home, arriving in a black SUV outfitted with emergency lights and police plates. Wearing body armor, a tactical vest, and a hyperrealistic silicone mask, Belter forced his way in and shot both Senator Hoffman and his wife Yvette. They survived but remain hospitalized.
Belter next traveled to Maple Grove, then New Hope, stalking other officials, before reaching Brooklyn Park. There, he shot and killed Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark after opening fire on officers and storming the home.
Inside his SUV, law enforcement discovered more firearms, ammo, and a hit list of over 45 elected officials. Belter now faces life sentences and possibly the death penalty for multiple charges, including stalking, attempted murder, and double homicide.
This nightmare scenario was stopped thanks to the relentless efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement in the largest manhunt in Minnesota history.
