POLK COUNTY, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – The Polk County Attorney’s Office has determined that Nicholas Fladland acted within Minnesota law in the shooting death of Anthony Scott Dale, 35.

Dale, a resident of Crookston, succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries on May 16th.

According to the Crookston Police Department, officers encountered Dale around 1:00 a.m. on East 7th Street, wielding a hatchet. When they attempted to approach him, he allegedly moved toward them. Officers employed non-lethal methods, but these efforts did not deter Dale, prompting them to open fire.

Officer Fladland, with five years of experience, discharged his department-issued handgun. Despite administering life-saving measures, Dale died at the hospital.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension stated that two other officers used non-lethal force, though it was ineffective.

Officer Fladland, currently on critical incident leave, fired the shots that ultimately struck Dale.
