CHICAGO, IL (trfnews.i234.me) – The 2024 Democratic National Convention begins today in Chicago, where Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will be in the spotlight as the vice-presidential nominee alongside Vice President Kamala Harris. Walz is set to formally accept the nomination on Wednesday night, delivering a significant speech. Minnesota DNC delegates will gather for breakfast meetings each morning of the convention from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.
President Joe Biden will deliver the keynote address tonight, with First Lady Jill Biden also scheduled to speak at the United Center. Vice President Harris will give her acceptance speech as the Democratic presidential nominee on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, more than 100 activists and community members from Minneapolis have traveled to Chicago to protest at the convention. The protests are focused on the ongoing war in Gaza, as well as demands for immigrant protections, climate crisis interventions, and an end to U.S. funding for what they describe as Israel’s occupation of Palestine. The Minnesota Anti-War Committee, which has been urging Governor Walz to divest state public worker pensions from Israeli companies, is among the groups leading the protests after seeing little progress on their demands.
