Becker County, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Stash Jay Hanks Jr., 31, of Minneapolis, has been sentenced by Becker County District Court on a felony third-degree drug charge, with a gross misdemeanor charge of giving a false name to a peace officer dropped in a plea agreement.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on September 23, 2023, when Becker County sheriff officers responded to reports of a car firing shots in White Earth village. Hanks, a passenger in the vehicle, was apprehended after the driver fled and was tased. Hanks also attempted to flee but was stopped and handcuffed, later giving a false name.
A search of the car revealed nearly 15 grams of cocaine in a backpack at Hanks’ feet, which also contained a casino card with his real name.
On April 23, Judge Doug Clark stayed the imposition of the sentence, meaning that successful completion of probation could result in a misdemeanor conviction. Hanks was sentenced to 30 days in jail, fined $1,000 plus $150 in court fees, and placed on supervised probation for five years with conditions including no drug or alcohol use, no firearms, and a comprehensive assessment.
A nationwide warrant was issued on July 5 for Hanks’ arrest due to a probation violation, leading to the revocation of the stayed sentence. Probation supervision continues with conditions pending resolution of the violation.
