South Harbor Township (trfnews.i234.me) – A serious head-on crash occurred Sunday afternoon in Mille Lacs County after a drunk driver crossed the center line on Highway 169 near Tamarack Road.

Authorities say 72-year-old Allen Gene Williams of Garrison, Minnesota, was driving a 2004 Chevy Avalanche southbound around 1:09 p.m. on June 1, 2025, when he veered into oncoming traffic and struck a 2019 Mazda CX5 head-on.

The driver of the Mazda, 64-year-old Renee Jean Tormoen of Merrifield, also sustained injuries. Both individuals were transported to Onamia Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Williams was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol was confirmed to be a factor in the crash. Tormoen was belted. Both airbags deployed in the vehicles.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office and Onamia Fire assisted at the scene.
