Mercedes Elena Hoff passed away on July 4th 2024 at the age of 69 in Grapevine, Texas, after losing her battle with Cancer.
Mercedes was born on August 11th 1954 in San Jose, Costa Rica, Daughter to Mario Saenz and Hilda Rodriguez. She grew up in Costa Rica where she had many friends.
Elena, as most of her friends in the U.S. knew her, met her husband of 34 years, Donald Hoff in Costa Rica. They were married on February 15th 1986 in San Jose, Costa Rica. After which she moved to the U.S. to raise a family, on the Farm in Rural Oslo, MN with Don, Daughter Heidy and son Michael, whom she loved dearly.
In her earlier years she was employed in the textile and fabric industries, while raising the family she also helped out on the farm, and would always provide wonderful meals as she was a talented cook as well. She also had her hand in sales for various products.
Later in life Elena and Donald moved to East Grand Forks.
Elena was always the center of attention. She had a quick wit and sense of humor. She was known for her cheerful, kind and loving nature. She enjoyed talking to anyone she could about Gods Kingdom, including the nurses that would assist with Chemo treatments.
Her hobbies included spending quality time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed dancing, singing, cooking, gardening, shopping and sewing. Among other things she enjoyed were her game shows like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, The price is right and others. Elena also loved to travel back to Costa Rica whenever she could. Almost every winter that is where you would find her.
Elena was a faithful servant of Jehovah God. She was baptized in 1989 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved the truth and God’s Promises.

Mercedes is survived by her son Michael Hoff and daughter-in-law Katie; grandchildren Daniel Ozaeta, and Dylan Bayne; brothers Ricardo and Fernando; sisters Ana Isabel and Maria Virginia; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents Mario & Hilda, Brother Carlos, Husband Donald and Daughter Heidy.
Her Family and friends will miss her dearly!
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 17th 2024 at 4:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 2311 River Road NW, East Grand Forks MN.
She will be laid to rest at Oak Park Cemetery in Oslo, MN.
