Meade County ( trfnews.i234.me ) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has confirmed two additional traffic-related deaths and 14 more injuries as the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally continues.

Throughout the 10-day event, the South Dakota Highway Patrol releases daily “Rally Tally” updates, which detail crashes and crime in and around Sturgis. The statistics include only incidents investigated by the Highway Patrol and exclude data from other agencies such as the Sturgis Police Department and county sheriff’s offices.

The most recent tally covers crashes from 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, to 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8.


Motorcyclist Dies After Police Pursuit Crash Near Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — A 28-year-old man died Monday, Aug. 4, following a crash during a police pursuit early Sunday, Aug. 3, near Sturgis. Authorities say the man fled after being stopped for exhibition driving near the Iron Horse Saloon. While traveling on U.S. Highway 14A at high speed, the motorcyclist left the roadway and entered a ditch. He was not wearing a helmet and died at a Monument Health hospital the following day. This marks the third traffic fatality during the rally.


23-Year-Old Biker Killed in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A 23-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday, Aug. 7, after colliding with a pickup at South Dakota Highway 44 and Airport Road. Investigators say the eastbound pickup turned left in front of the westbound motorcycle. The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Monument Health, where he died. The pickup driver was uninjured.


High-Speed Crash on I-90 Near Philip

PHILIP, S.D. — A motorcyclist is in critical condition after rear-ending a pickup truck Thursday evening on Interstate 90 near mile marker 135. Authorities say the motorcycle was traveling at high speed before striking the pickup’s rear bumper, entering the median, and rolling. The rider, not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital. The pickup driver was unhurt.


Two Motorcyclists Injured in Blucksberg Mountain

BLUCKSBERG MOUNTAIN, S.D. — Two riders were hurt late Thursday when their motorcycles collided at Pleasant Valley Road and the I-90 off-ramp. One rider suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries; the other sustained minor injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet.


Side-Swipe Crash Near Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — A 2023 Indian motorcycle and a 2025 Harley-Davidson collided Thursday morning on South Dakota Highway 34. One rider suffered a leg injury, another sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries, and one passenger was unharmed.


Curve Collision Near Custer

CUSTER, S.D. — Two motorcycles collided Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 16A when one rider crossed the center line on a curve. Three people were hurt, including one with serious injuries.


Tire Blowout Near Wall

WALL, S.D. — A rear tire blowout caused a 1999 Harley-Davidson to crash Thursday morning on Interstate 90. The driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.


Wobbling Front Wheel Leads to Spearfish Crash

SPEARFISH, S.D. — A front wheel wobble caused a motorcyclist to tip and collide with a car Thursday morning on Interstate 90. The rider sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries.


Motorcycle Strikes Trailer in Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. — A biker lost control while turning at Highways 34 and 79 Thursday afternoon, striking a trailer. A passenger sustained minor injuries.


Exhaust Scrape Causes Crash in Custer

CUSTER, S.D. — An exhaust pipe scraping the pavement caused a rider to lose control Thursday afternoon on Wildlife Loop Road. The unhelmeted driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.


Motorcycle Crash in Nemo

NEMO, S.D. — A rider sustained minor injuries Thursday after running off Nemo Road near Box Elder Forks Road. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
