McVille, North Dakota (trfnews.i234.me) — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying a man seen trying to break into a home and vehicles in McVille.

Deputies say the incident happened on or about Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025. It happened between midnight and 2 a.m. A homeowner reported seeing the man outside. The homeowner said the man tried to get into the home and nearby vehicles.

The sheriff’s office says there is video of the suspect. The man has not been identified. Deputies are asking the public to share any leads. They are also asking for home or vehicle surveillance footage from the area.

Suspect description

The sheriff’s office described the suspect as a male with shoulder-length hair. The suspect was described as Native American-looking. Deputies say he wore a green shirt, gray sweatpants, and black boots. Deputies say he was not wearing a coat.

How to report tips

Anyone who saw suspicious activity is asked to call the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office at 701-247-2474. Tip information may be reported anonymously.

People with camera footage should save the video. Keep the original file if possible. Note the date and time on the recording. Share the location where it was captured. Deputies can advise how to submit files.

Safety reminder for residents

Residents are urged to lock homes and vehicles. Remove valuables from vehicles. Keep porch lights on at night. Report suspicious activity right away.
