Maynard S. Kadlec, age 86 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of the Lankin area passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at his home in Grand Forks.

Maynard Stanley Kadlec was born June 25, 1938 in Latona Township, Walsh County, ND the son of the late Louis and Lillian (Bina) Kadlec. He attended rural school in Latona Township and graduated from Lankin High school in 1956. Following his graduation he worked on the family farm. Maynard was united in marriage to Phyllis Kovarik on June 18, 1959 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Bechyne. The couple moved to a farmstead 1 ½ miles from the family farm and raised their five children there. Maynard farmed for 28 years then worked at Cenex for almost 10 years. He later worked for Midgarden Potato Company and Kadlec farms until his retirement.

He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Bechyne where he served as a trustee for four years. He served as the Township Assessor for 16 yrs, Lakota Knight of Columbus Grand Knight. He helped remodel the Bechyne Hall. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 65 years, his children: Douglas (Lori Lee), Star, ID; Lori (Don ) Diede, Breckenridge, MN; Lesa Haase (Al Kyllanen), Lakota, ND; Kim Hanneman (Greg Braun), Wahpeton, ND; grandchildren: Vanessa (Eric) Reid, Michelle (Shane) Ebersbach; Nevin (Bessie) Kadlec, Jeff (Brianna) Aamot, Amber, Brittany and Jessica, Garret (Ryan) Greenwood, Brayden (Andrea) Greenwood, Felix Greenwood and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David, brother and sister-in-law, Roman and Luella Kadlec, and father and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Mildred Kovarik.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bechyne, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. The inurnment will be at the church cemetery. The Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River is in charge of the arrangements.
