Marlys Drangstveit, 80 of Goodridge, MN passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in Yuma, AZ.

 

Public visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. The service will follow at 3:15 PM led by Rev. Kristin Ostercamp. Please wear your mask and practice social distancing. Burial will follow at the Goodridge Cemetery.

 

Marlys Joanne Mostrom was born January 10, 1941 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Albert Milton and Viola Willamenia (Anderson) Mostrom. She was baptized February 10, 1947 and confirmed May 20, 1956. Marlys graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1959.

 

On January 7, 1961, Marlys married her high school sweetheart, Merlin Drangstveit at Bethany Lutheran Church in Smiley Township, Pennington County. They made their home on the Drangstveit Family Farm in Moylan Township, Marshall County, MN and to this union two wonderful sons were born, Terry and Michael.

 

The Drangstveit Family Farm was established in 1898 by Merlin’s grandfather, Arnie. Through good times and bad, together, Merlin & Marlys enjoyed their life on the farm. They raised dairy cattle, pigs, sheep, oats and hay. Their focus over the years became small grains and pigs. Marlys was very proud to see her sons purchase the Drangstveit Family Farm and continue the operation.

 

Marlys was a very hard worker; she could run the tractors & combines, take care of the livestock, manage the house, raise their boys, look after her mother-in-law and cook the meals. Marlys and Merlin always worked well together. She was very organized, was never late with a card or gift for a birthday or special occasion and always seemed to have your favorite cookie or treat on hand. Family was everything to her and she dearly loved her husband, sons and their wives, grandkids and great grandkids. Marlys was caring, kind, loving, helpful, positive, supportive and community oriented.

 

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge, taught Sunday School and was a active in the Women’s Group. Marlys was a charter member of the Lion’s Club and active with the Boy Scout program in Goodridge.

 

Marlys enjoyed mowing and maintaining their beautiful yard, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, baking for her family, traveling with Merlin throughout the United States and being a snowbird in Yuma where she loved the weather and visiting with the people.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Merlin; sons, Terry (Tammy) Drangstveit and Mike (Donna) Drangstveit all of Goodridge; grandchildren, Tabitha (Nic) Miller, Chelsey (Bryan) Sorvig, Stephanie (Nick) Schuler, Devin (Khunsa) Drangstveit, Lesley (Mike) Harmoning, Jonathan Sundrud; great-grandchildren, Gage, Raegan, Jackson, Ellie, Thea, Daphne, Millie and another one due in May; brothers, Harlan and Merle Mostrom; brothers & sister-in-law, Orvin Drangstveit, Dennis (Janie) Drangstveit and Claree (Duane) Paulson; cousin & life-long friend, Marilyn Chruszch; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Viola Mostrom; father & mother-in-law, Orin & Caroline Drangstveit; infant brother, Larry; grandson, Taylor; sisters-in-law, Judy Mostrom and Janet Drangstveit.
