Marie (Proulx) Chaput was born January 30, 1934, at Argyle, MN, the daughter of Emery and Frances (Verbout) Proulx.  She attended rural school in Foldahl Township, rural Argyle, through the eighth grade.  She moved with her family to Wylie, MN, rural Red Lake Falls, and attended high school at St. Joseph’s Academy in Crookston, MN, graduating as salutatorian of her class in 1951.

She was employed in Grand Forks, ND as a secretary until her marriage to Roma Chaput at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, MN in 1954.  She and her husband purchased a farm in Lake Pleasant Township, Red Lake County, where they lived, farmed, and raised their children.

Marie was Clerk of Lake Pleasant Township for 52 years (started in 1970) and Secretary-Treasurer of the Red Lake County Assoc. of Townships (started in 1991).  She was a member of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and volunteered in many different ways having taught Bone-Builders for several years.  Marie was also a member of Lake Pleasant Homemakers, Merri-Mixers Homemakers, Red Hats, Catholic Daughters of America and held offices with the organization as well as with the St. Ann Sodality of St. Peters Catholic Church in Gentilly, MN.  Marie was the Religious Education Coordinator and Teacher of First Eucharist and Confirmation in the parish since 1982 through the present time.  She loved her church work, volunteering at the schools and nursing homes and being a member of the Villa St. Vincent Auxillary.  She was presented the “Bishop’s Medal of the Diocese of Crookston” by Bishop Michael Hoeppner in 2010, something she treasured deeply.  In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, tending her flower gardens with the many concrete ornaments and painting ceramics.  Most of all, Marie loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  They were the most important people in her life and she treasured them and all the good times they had together. Sadly, Roma passed away in 1998.
