MANKATO, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – An 18-year-old Mankato resident, Geunther Boone Jr., has been charged with second-degree murder and two weapons offenses following a fatal shooting incident early Saturday morning. Law enforcement responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 3:15 a.m. and discovered a deceased male in the passenger seat of a vehicle.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Darious Dashon Johnson of Mankato. According to the criminal complaint, a witness stated that they and Johnson had traveled to the 500 block of East Walnut Street to purchase marijuana cartridges for e-cigarettes. Upon arrival, Boone and another individual allegedly approached the vehicle. Boone is accused of opening the passenger door and shooting Johnson in the head before fleeing the scene. The driver then returned home and contacted emergency services.

Authorities apprehended Boone at his residence. Initially, he denied involvement but later admitted to the shooting, claiming he intended to rob Johnson and fired the weapon, believing Johnson was reaching for a gun.

Boone appeared in court on Monday, where bail was set at one million dollars. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 9. The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
