Cass County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – The Cass County Sheriff reports that one man is in jail following a shooting incident at a gas station in Cass Lake on Tuesday morning. The incident began shortly after 11:16 a.m. on Aspen Avenue.
Deputies were sent to the business after reports that an individual had fired a gun in the parking lot. When deputies arrived, they secured the scene and spoke with the people involved. The early investigation shows a family was traveling from the Bemidji area to the Twin Cities when a dispute broke out inside their vehicle.
The driver pulled into the parking lot of the business. Several passengers got out of the vehicle. During the argument, a weapon was fired at an adult male passenger. A round struck a gas pump at the business. Deputies say there were minor injuries related to the dispute.
An adult male suspect, identified as Jose Pineda Jr., 20, of Minneapolis, was taken into custody. He was transported to the Cass County Jail. Charges are pending and may include reckless discharge of a firearm, second-degree assault, and domestic assault.
Assisting at the scene were the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office and the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department. The investigation is ongoing as deputies continue interviews and evidence review.
