Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) A Bemidji woman is facing a felony drug charge in Mahnomen County after prosecutors accused her of trying to sell fentanyl during a 2022 investigation.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota District Court, Ashley Dawn Roy, 22, is charged with third-degree sale of a narcotic drug. The charge is a felony under Minnesota Statute 152.023.

What The Complaint Says

Court records say the case began on Sept. 12, 2022. Investigators alleged that Roy agreed by text message to sell one gram of heroin for $200. The complaint says the meeting was arranged at Pinehurst.

Authorities said Roy described the vehicle she would be riding in. Investigators then spotted that vehicle traveling south on County Road 4 in Mahnomen County.

The complaint says a traffic stop followed. The driver was identified as Jeremy Curtis Neeland. Roy was identified as the passenger.

Items Found During The Stop

According to the complaint, Roy later admitted she threw a paper bindle out of the vehicle window when she saw the stop was happening. Investigators said the bindle was found along the roadside.

The complaint states Roy admitted the bindle was hers. Authorities also alleged she planned to sell it to an investigator.

Investigators later searched a Mahnomen residence after Neeland gave consent, according to the complaint. Court records say additional suspected controlled substances were found there.

Lab Results Listed In Court Records

The complaint cites a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab report dated Oct. 14, 2023. That report said one bag connected to Roy contained fentanyl weighing about 0.135 grams. Another bag found at the residence contained fentanyl weighing about 0.411 grams.

Roy now faces one count of third-degree sale of a narcotic drug. The complaint lists a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. Charges are allegations only. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Case Status

The case was filed in Mahnomen County District Court, part of Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District. More information about Minnesota court cases is available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
