Mahnomen County, Minnesota — A Mahnomen woman, Sativa Jo Warren, 22, is in custody after she allegedly assaulted a man with a hammer, destroyed property, and endangered her 2-year-old child during a chaotic incident on June 23, 2025.
Deputy Breeann Brandenburger responded to a report of a violent fight involving a hammer at 521 NW 5th Street. Upon arrival, she found signs of a disturbance—blood, broken items, and a distraught child inside the residence. A male witness later told deputies he saw Warren strike another man, later identified as Danny Michelle Harris, with a hammer at least five times.
Warren allegedly threw a plate of food, vandalized a vehicle, and repeatedly interfered with officers attempting to investigate. She also refused to identify herself and was verbally combative during the entire encounter. Officers noted her child was present during the altercation and surrounded by unsafe conditions.
When officers attempted to place her under arrest, Warren resisted violently, kicking a deputy, falling to the ground, and refusing to get into the squad car.
Warren now faces four criminal charges:
-
Count I: 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Felony)
– Hammer attack on male victim
– Max penalty: 7 years in prison or $14,000 fine -
Count II: Domestic Assault (Misdemeanor)
– Infliction or attempted bodily harm
– Max penalty: 90 days in jail or $1,000 fine -
Count III: Child Neglect/Endangerment (Gross Misdemeanor)
– Child present during violent acts and unsafe home conditions
– Max penalty: 364 days in jail or $3,000 fine -
Count IV: Obstruction of Legal Process (Misdemeanor)
– Resisting law enforcement during arrest
– Max penalty: 90 days in jail or $1,000 fine
Authorities have also confirmed that Danny Harris had an active warrant out of Georgia, adding further complexity to the case.
Warren remains in custody under a court-ordered detention as the investigation continues.
