Mahnomen, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) A Naytahwaush man now faces a gross misdemeanor charge. The case follows a traffic stop in Mahnomen.

Brandon Donavan White, 34, is charged with DWI. Prosecutors say he drove while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Stop on Main Street North

The complaint says an officer stopped a dark SUV at 6:41 p.m. The stop happened on February 5, 2026. It took place on Main Street North in Mahnomen.

The complaint says the SUV had a very loud exhaust. The officer identified White as the driver. The complaint says White’s pupils looked unusually small.

Passenger taken into custody

A rear passenger was identified as Thomas Allen King, Sr. The complaint says King had active warrants. Officers arrested King during the stop.

Officers reported finding a hypodermic needle near King. They also reported finding a yellow paper bindle. The complaint says it held a white crystal substance.

The substance field-tested positive for about 0.3 grams of methamphetamine, according to the complaint.

Field tests and arrest

The complaint says the officer ran field sobriety tests on White. The officer reported signs of impairment during the tests.

The complaint lists eye movement clues and swaying. It also lists timing errors during a balance test. White was then arrested, the complaint says.

White allegedly admitted to drug use that day. The complaint says he told police he smoked heroin. He said it was a couple of hours earlier.

Investigators later obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, the complaint says. The sample was collected for lab testing.

Court filing and prior record

The charge was filed on February 6, 2026, in Mahnomen County District Court. Court records show a prior DWI-refusal conviction from 2018.

A judge granted conditional release with $0 bail at the first appearance.
