Mahnomen (trfnews.i234.me) On March 15, 2025, John Melvin Sargent, Jr., 40, of Mahnomen, was arrested in Becker County on felony and gross misdemeanor charges. A Becker County sheriff’s deputy observed Sargent driving southbound on County Highway 21 in White Earth, with neither he nor his passenger wearing seatbelts. Upon stopping, the deputy noted Sargent’s glossy eyes and pinpoint pupils. A hypodermic needle found in Sargent’s pocket indicated recent drug use. Field sobriety tests confirmed impairment. A search of his vehicle uncovered 3.56 grams of methamphetamine. Sargent posted $300 bail with conditions, including no drug or alcohol use, and is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on April 14.
