Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Mahnomen woman is facing multiple charges after a tragic traffic incident led to a broader legal discovery.
Law enforcement responded to a scene at 2216 270th Avenue, where a motorist had accidentally struck a dog, causing several people to gather and argue. Upon arrival, Deputy Ben Bruce found a deceased German Shepherd and made contact with Denise Marie Folstrom, who admitted to being the driver.
During the investigation, officers discovered Folstrom’s driver’s license had been canceled as “inimical to public safety,” a classification for drivers deemed a risk on the road. Furthermore, she was driving a green Dodge Dakota displaying license plates issued for a maroon Ford Ranger. Folstrom admitted she had placed the wrong plates on the vehicle after buying it.
She now faces:
-
Gross Misdemeanor: Driving after cancellation (DAC-IPS)
-
Misdemeanor: Unauthorized use of license plates
Maximum penalties include up to 364 days in jail and $3,000 in fines for the gross misdemeanor, and up to 90 days and $1,000 for the plate violation.
