Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A White Earth woman is facing a gross misdemeanor drug charge after authorities allegedly found methamphetamine in her belongings at the White Earth Homeless Shelter.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Mahnomen County District Court, Genesis Mae Vanwert, 26, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession following an incident.

Authorities say shelter staff overheard Vanwert discussing a possible drug transaction and requested a search of her sleeping area. During the search, Officer Timothy Antell discovered a clear baggie containing a crystalline substance on a bunk bed. Field testing later confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, weighing approximately 1.1 grams.

If convicted, Vanwert faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.
