Mahnomen County (https://trfnews.i234.me) – A 49-year-old Mahnomen man has been charged with gross misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct after a disturbing incident at the Shooting Star Casino, where a woman reported waking up to him allegedly touching her without consent.

According to court documents, the incident occurred when the victim—identified as C.R.B.—was invited by a friend to stay in a hotel room. After falling asleep on a bed in the room, the victim said she awoke to Joseph Wayne Moose with his fingers between her legs and her pants pulled down.

She told Moose to stop and immediately fled to the bathroom, where she told her friend what happened. Her friend then confronted and punched Moose, who later left the room.

When interviewed later, the victim said she wasn’t certain if Moose’s fingers were fully inside her but confirmed his hand was between her legs near her vagina. She made it clear that she did not consent to any sexual contact.

Deputies were called to the scene, and hotel surveillance supported the victim’s timeline. When questioned in April, Moose claimed he had “blacked out” from drinking and didn’t recall much, denying he would have done something like that.

Joseph Wayne Moose has now been charged with:

  • Count I: 5th Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct – Nonconsensual Sexual Contact (Gross Misdemeanor)
Maximum penalty: 364 days in jail and/or $3,000 fine

He is currently under order of detention pending further court proceedings.
