Mahnomen County (https://trfnews.i234.me) – A 36-year-old Mahnomen man, Nathaniel Charles Sargent, has been formally charged with false imprisonment, domestic assault, and interference with a 911 call after an alleged brutal multi-day attack against a woman he was dating.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim told law enforcement she was assaulted at Sargent’s home on W. Garfield Ave. She reported that Sargent:

  • Beat her with a baton and a yellow DeWalt drill

  • Punched her with his fists

  • Refused to let her leave the home

  • Confiscated her phone to prevent her from calling 911

She told officers that if she attempted to leave, Sargent assaulted her again and told her she wasn’t “going to get to leave.”

Nearly three months later, in August 2024, the victim came forward to report the incident. She still had visible injuries, including a lump on her hand, a scar above her eye, and bruising.

Sargent is now charged with:

  • Count I: False Imprisonment – Intentional Restraint (Felony)
Up to 3 years in prison, $5,000 fine, or both

  • Count II: Domestic Assault – Subsequent Violation (Gross Misdemeanor)
Up to 364 days in jail, $3,000 fine, or both

  • Count III: Interference with Emergency Call (Gross Misdemeanor)
Up to 364 days in jail, $3,000 fine, or both

The complaint also notes that Sargent has prior domestic-related convictions, including:

  • Emergency call interference (2023)

  • Violations of a domestic abuse no-contact order (2024)

A summons has been issued for Sargent to appear in court.
