Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Naytahwaush man has been charged with gross misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct after an alleged incident involving nonconsensual sexual contact.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Mahnomen County District Court, David Laverne Burnette, 67, is accused of inappropriately touching a female victim during a gathering at a residence on New Circle Drive in Naytahwaush.
Deputies with the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report. The victim told investigators she was celebrating her birthday with Burnette and another individual when the alleged contact occurred. She stated Burnette touched her buttocks and vagina over her clothing, despite her telling him to stop.
Another witness told deputies the victim had disclosed the inappropriate touching shortly after leaving the home. Burnette later denied the allegations when questioned by investigators.
Burnette faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine if convicted. The case remains under review in Mahnomen County District Court.
