Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) – A homeless Mahnomen man has been charged with felony threats of violence and misdemeanor assault following an incident at the Shooting Star Casino on July 22, 2025.

According to court documents filed in Mahnomen County District Court, Joseph Terrance Brown, 40, allegedly threatened to stab a casino security officer after refusing to leave the property. Authorities say the threat caused the security officer to fear for his safety, noting that Brown is known to carry weapons, although no weapon was observed during the encounter.

The report states that Sgt. Gunnr Nelson of the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call around 6:09 p.m. When Nelson arrived, Brown agreed to leave but allegedly issued the threat toward the security officer as the situation unfolded.

Brown was arrested at the scene. Court records indicate he currently has six other pending felony cases in Mahnomen County, with incident dates ranging from 2023 to 2024.

If convicted of the felony charge, Brown faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
