Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Mahnomen man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge after being caught behind the wheel with a license canceled as “inimical to public safety,” a serious public safety classification under Minnesota law.
On April 8, 2025, Officer Erik Jax of the White Earth Police Department spotted a vehicle commit a traffic violation—failing to use a turn signal while turning onto West Minnesota Avenue. The car, with a temporary Minnesota plate, was pulled over at the intersection of West Minnesota Avenue and North 1st Street.
Officer Jax immediately recognized the driver as Lawrence William Goodman Sr., whose driving privileges he knew were canceled as DAC-IPS—a designation given when a person is deemed a danger to public safety if allowed to drive. A records check confirmed Goodman’s status, and he was arrested and booked into the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, then released.
Goodman now faces a gross misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
