Lou Alice Schlaffman, 94, made her journey home on August 20, 2024. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM CDT, Friday, August 30, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lou Alice was born on September 14, 1929, to Andrew and Hildegard (Sandau) Froescher. She graduated valedictorian from Beulah High School, class of 1947. On August 22, 1948, she married Herbert Messmer from Halliday, ND. They raised three children in Grand Forks, ND, while Lou Alice worked at the University Of North Dakota in payroll services. She enjoyed being a member of University Lutheran Church. She was an active member of many foreign foods clubs, bridge clubs and church organizations. She later returned to Beulah, ND, reuniting with her Zion Lutheran Church and friends.
She cherished her role of being Grandma and Great-Grandma. She was “The Cookie Grandma”. Her famous monster cookies and Peanut Buster Parfait were always a request.
Lou is survived by her son, Marc Messmer of Grand Forks, ND; her daughter, Karen (Jerry) Murray of Chaska, MN; six grandchildren, Scott, Danika and Kyle; Shawn, Nathan and Christopher; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew, Logan and Ryan, Maris, Paisley and Sylvia, Genevieve, Caroline and Barrett; one sister, Ramona (Ralph) Johnson of Zap, ND; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Messmer; one son, Kevin Messmer; one brother, Leroy; one sister, Myra; one niece, Debbie.
