NEW ROCKFORD, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Nicholas Poitra of Belcourt, North Dakota, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the fatal bar shooting last year. The sentencing took place Wednesday in Eddy County, where Poitra faced numerous charges, including murder and terrorizing.
The incident occurred in February 2023 at Rindy’s Sheyenne Bar, where 30-year-old Troyal Thumb was shot and killed following an argument with Poitra. After the shooting, Poitra fled the scene but was captured three days later by a farmer in Eddy County, who held him at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.
In February, Poitra changed his plea to guilty on all charges, leading to his life sentence.
