Clearwater County (trfnews.i234.me) A Clearbrook man faces a gross misdemeanor charge after a snowmobile incident near Leonard.
The complaint says the case involves an alleged refusal to give a court-ordered blood or urine sample.
Lucas Todd Johnson, 35, of Clearbrook, is charged with second-degree refusal to submit to a chemical test.
The charge is listed as Minnesota Statute 169A.20, subdivision 2(2).
What the police say happened
According to the complaint, a deputy was sent to Leonard on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
The call came in at about 8:25 p.m.
A witness reported a snowmobiler stumbling near his machine in a field.
The witness said the rider fell off the snowmobile.
The rider then struggled to get back on.
The witness said the rider drove away in an unsteady way.
The complaint says the deputy followed tracks that crossed the road back and forth.
Police later found the rider on 199th Avenue, the complaint says.
The snowmobile had tipped over, and the rider was pinned underneath it.
The driver was identified as Lucas Todd Johnson, according to the complaint.
The deputy reported Johnson was unsteady when he stood up.
The deputy also reported a strong smell of alcohol.
The complaint says Johnson had bloodshot, watery eyes.
While at the scene, the complaint says Johnson called his wife.
During that call, he said, “Hey uh, well I have cops, and uh yep I’m screwed.”
A field sobriety test was done, the complaint says.
Johnson was then taken into custody.

Test warrant and refusal
The complaint says police took Johnson to the Sanford Bagley Medical Center emergency room.
A judge signed a search warrant for a blood or urine sample, the complaint says.
Police say Johnson refused to provide a sample.
That refusal led to the current gross misdemeanor charge.
Court details
Bail was set at $3,000 with conditions, or $12,000 without conditions.
The order was signed by Judge Eric Schieferdecker.
Court records also show a prior DWI conviction from February 2019.
Records say Johnson may be screened for a DWI court program.
