Laurie Willprecht, age 57, resident of Grand Forks entered her heavenly home on August 2, 2024 due to complications from her 14 year battle with cancer. Laurie was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her gentle, kind, and giving ways made lasting memories for all who knew her.
Laurie J. Hawn was born in Bismarck, ND on Dec. 25, 1966. A Christmas gift to Kenneth A. and Nina J. (Roth) Hawn. She grew up with her family in Scranton, ND. As a child, Laurie was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on Sept. 9, 1973, at the age of 6. She attended school and graduated with the Class of 1986. Following her high school graduation, Laurie furthered her education at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, attaining an AA degree in Computer Science. She married the love of her life, David Willprecht in Scranton, ND on June 10, 1989. The couple made a loving home together in Grand Forks following their marriage.
Laurie’s presence in the retail business spanned over three decades. Through her dedicated service, Laurie forged lasting relationships with both customers and colleagues, showcasing her genuine warmth and admirable work ethic. Laurie continued to work full time until she retired in 2022, all while doing cancer treatments.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Laurie’s true joy stemmed from the love she held for her family. In her recent years, Laurie found joy in her nieces and nephews whom she adored with unwavering devotion; especially the little ones whom she could hold and snuggle. Not to be forgotten was Laurie’s loyal companion, Deva, her beloved canine friend who brought immense happiness into her life.
In the realm of personal interests, Laurie found solace and joy in indulging in puzzles, games, relishing walks with loved ones, enjoying the sights and sounds of the casino playing slots. She had a love for music, including the ability to play multiple instruments. Laurie was an exceptional baker. Her renowned mint brownies will forever remain a delectable testament to her baking talents. Laurie loved Christmas! As a young child Laurie believed the whole world celebrated her birthday since she was born on Christmas. As an adult, Laurie would decorate over 12 Christmas trees, which were placed beautifully around their home.
The memory of Laurie J. Willprecht will be honored during visitation services at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grand Forks on August 8, 2024. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects starting from 9:30 AM until the funeral service commences at 10:30 AM on the same day at the church.
Laurie is survived by her loving husband, David; son, David Willprecht Jr.; mother, Nina Hawn; sibling, Glenn Hawn; brother-in laws: Steve (Anita) Willprecht, Jim (Vickie) Willprecht, sister-in-law Kathy Lyon, and brother-in-law; Bob (Sue) Willprecht, multiple nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Hawn, one sibling Terry Hawn, her grandparents, and brother-in-law Joe Lyon.
As we say goodbye to a remarkable soul, whose kindness touched many hearts, let us carry forth Laurie’s legacy by cherishing our loved ones and embracing life with the same grace that defined hers. Rest peacefully, dear Laurie – your spirit will linger on in the countless lives you’ve brightened with your presence.
