Robin Lynn Johnson, 37, of rural Lake Park, has reached an agreement with the Becker County Attorney’s Office to suspend prosecution on two misdemeanor charges of abandoning animals. The original charge was a felony but it was dismissed by the prosecutor’s office.

According to court records, on November 10, 2022, Lake Park police received a report about a cat that had been abandoned during an eviction at a residence in Lake Park. On November 14, 2022, the officer spoke with the property owner who stated he caught a cat in a live trap left at the rental property.

The property owner said Johnson was evicted from the property on November 8, 2022, and told him that the cat was his problem now. The officer attempted to call and locate Johnson but did not receive any response. The cat was seized by law enforcement and brought to the Marshmallow Foundation in Detroit Lakes.

Subsequently, it was discovered that a freshwater aquarium with fish had also been left behind at the rental property by Johnson. On November 20, 2022, a Lake Park police officer assisted the Marshmallow Foundation in seizing approximately a dozen freshwater fish from the property. Two of the fish died prior to seizure.

On October 3, Johnson signed an agreement with the county attorney’s office to suspend prosecution for one year on the two misdemeanor counts of abandoning animals. As part of this deal, she agreed to pay $1,413 in restitution and a fine of $100. She also agreed not to have any same or similar violations within that year.
