A rural Lake Park man, Treyton Jorge Edwards, 20, is facing a series of serious charges following a violent domestic incident that escalated into multiple assaults and significant property damage. Edwards has been charged with two felony counts of domestic assault, three felony counts of fourth-degree assault, a gross misdemeanor for third-degree property damage, and other related charges in Becker County District Court.
The incident occurred in the early hours of June 22, when Detroit Lakes police responded to a domestic disturbance call. According to court records, Edwards, allegedly intoxicated, became aggressive after an argument with his girlfriend at a gas station. He reportedly backhanded her in the face and twisted her arm, leaving her with visible injuries including a swollen lip and bruises. Upon returning to the residence, Edwards’ rage continued as he broke a side mirror off her vehicle.
When officers arrived, Edwards resisted arrest, kicking the squad car door and assaulting an officer by kicking him in the chest. He also spit on two deputies, prompting the use of a spit hood. Despite being restrained, Edwards continued to kick and cause damage, bending the bars of the squad car.
In addition to the June incident, Edwards is facing charges related to a previous violent encounter on May 19 in Lake Park. During that altercation, Edwards allegedly caused over $1,200 in damage by punching a vehicle mirror and assaulting two women, one of whom tried to protect his girlfriend.
Edwards has prior convictions for domestic assault in February 2023 and stalking in February 2024. He was released on bail after posting $700 but is subject to strict conditions, including a domestic abuse no-contact order. His next court appearance is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on October 23.
