here’s a beautiful look at the northern lights on lake of the woods out of zipple bay resort saturday night in a display the resort called the universe’s grand finale for the 2020 21 ice fishing season photo here courtesy of zipple bay resort and eye news sponsor now on to other news from lake of the woods from our news partner the northern light region newspaper two war road men are recovering after a snowmobile accident last month on lake of the woods left them with serious injuries according to lake of the woods county sheriff gary fish at 8 45 pm on saturday february 27th his office was notified of a snowmobile accident near elm point in the spring still resort area of lake of the woods david john meek 61 and alfred and andrew stoskoff uh 55 both of war road were traveling on the lake meek on a 2015 polaris indy and stoskoff on a 1993 polaris when they hit a pressure ridge meek and staskoff were transported off the ice where the roseau ambulance and rescue squad were waiting the men were rushed to the emergency room in roseau and then life flighted to ultru hospital in grand forks while it appeared stoskoff was recovering from his injuries that was reported by family members that after spending several days in the hospital in grand forks he went into septic shock and his kidneys began to shut down stoskoff was placed on a velo a ventilator and moved to the icu on monday march 15th he was taken off the ventilator but will remain in the icu for an undetermined period of time a gofundme account has been started on behalf of half of stoskoff donations may also be made to the alfred stoskoff benefit account at security state bank in addition a benefit will be held may 16th at the war road eagles club meek received seven broken ribs in the accident as well as a broken scapula bruised spleen and bruised lung a benefit on his behalf will be held sunday april 18th from 11 a.m to 2 p.m at the war road eagles club and the angle ice road has closed for the season the 22 mile northwest ankle gust ice road linking angle resorts to the mainland closed for the season on friday march 12th the plan was to keep the road open until march 15th but deteriorating ice conditions caused the road to close a few days earlier than planned the ice road officially opened on monday january 19th according to the ice roads facebook page in the nearly two months the road was open 966 passes were sold and 675 total hours were spent plowing the road resulting in 130 000 dollars in costs ice road caretakers and volunteers also put in hundreds of hours staking checking roads fixing bridges as well as spending time in zoom and press meetings and managing facebook posts posts and messages caretakers were assisted by their partners the northwest angle edge rider snowmobile club and spring still resort incorporated i’m Neil Berg reporting for page onepublications.com
