Kittson County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Halma, Minnesota man is behind bars after a chilling series of phone threats against his ex-wife and daughters led to his arrest on felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Kittson County District Court, 43-year-old Corey Jon Berberich faces one felony count of Threats of Violence and one misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct stemming from an incident that occurred the evening of July 14, 2025.
Authorities say Berberich’s ex-wife, referred to as K.B., contacted the Kittson County Sheriff’s Office around 10:36 p.m. to report harassing and threatening messages from him. Deputy Terry Bayne, who was en route to her location, requested more information—and quickly received a disturbing video clip.
The video, recorded by one of Berberich’s juvenile daughters, captured a phone call between him and his other daughter, S.B. In the recording, Berberich demanded that the phone be handed to their mother or he would be “coming over,” warning, “It’s either going to end nicely or it’s gonna end fuckin’ badly for all you guys.” He also said, “You’re gonna also see a lot of shit that you don’t wanna fuckin’ see either.” When one child asked if he planned to “beat the hell out of mom,” Berberich chillingly responded, “You’re fuckin’ right.”
Deputy Bayne arrived at Berberich’s residence in Halma just ten minutes later. Berberich admitted to making the statements, saying, “I was just being stupid and didn’t mean it.” He was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Kittson County Jail.
Bayne then traveled to Karlstad, where K.B. and the children live. S.B. told Bayne her father became increasingly aggressive over the course of the evening. She reported that after she refused to let him speak to her mother, he yelled at her to “get her fat ass downstairs” and later texted suicidal threats, claiming his death would be her fault.
K.B. confirmed to authorities that Berberich had called or texted her and her daughters at least 18 times between 8:30 p.m. and 9:37 p.m. She blocked his number but remained concerned after seeing the video of the conversation. She told Deputy Bayne she locked all doors and called her father out of fear, saying, “I don’t know what he’s capable of at this point.”
Berberich now faces up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine if convicted on the felony charge alone. The misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail or a $1,000 fine.
