Kim Powers, age 64, lifelong resident of Grand Forks passed away at her home on August 13, 2024.
Kim Suzette Skari was born on August 11, 1960, in Grand Forks, ND, to her loving parents Darlene (Harms) and Raymond Skari. She attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1978, laying the foundation for her future endeavors. Kim married Ray Kuntz in December 17, 1982. To this union four children were born: Crystal, Ashlee, Austin and Spencer. Kim and Ray later divorced. In 2002, she was untied in marriage to James “Jim” Powers. Together they shared over 20 years together.
Kim’s journey through life was marked by her various careers and endless love for her family. She was a remarkable woman known for her unwavering love for children and dedication to work
She started her professional life as a Day Care provider, where her nurturing nature shone through, and her passion for caring for children blossomed. Transitioning to the service industry, she excelled as Head of Housekeeping and later as a Hotel Manager, earning recognition for her exceptional service by being awarded the Hospitality Host of the Year award. Kim’s dedication and hard work were evident in everything she pursued.
Kim’s interests were as varied as they were heartfelt; from decorating her home to drawing, gardening, baking, and thrift shopping. However, nothing held a candle to the joy she found in spending time with her family.
Kim’s proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her roles as a mom and Grandmother. She lived to shower her family with love and care, embodying the true essence of a dedicated and loving matriarch.
Kim is survived by her husband, James Powers; cherished children: Crystal Kuntz, Ashlee (Casey) Wedin, Austin Kuntz, and Spencer (Haley) Kuntz; grandchildren: Ava, Jackson, Briar, Sophia, Ty, Mya, Harper and Keegan; siblings: Sherry (Marvin Johnson) Burkholder, Debbi Stenvold and Tammy (John) Nordine; along with many other family member and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darlene and Raymond Skari; her sister, Kathy Leyendecker and one granddaughter, Chloe Wedin.
A visitation to honor Kim’s memory will take place on August 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at Amundson Funeral Home, located at 2975 S 42nd St, Grand Forks, ND, 58201. Kim’s legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her dearly. Her gentle soul and loving presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
Kim Powers touched the lives of many with her kind heart and selfless spirit. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so generously shared during her time on earth.
