Dunn County (trfnews.i234.me) — Two drivers died in a head-on crash on ND Highway 22 near Killdeer.

The wreck happened on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Troopers were called at about 5:45 a.m. Mountain Time.

That was about 6:45 a.m. Central Time.

The crash site was near mile marker 123.5.

It was about 17 miles north of Killdeer.

Roads were wet at the time.

The weather was reported as dry.

The crash involved two commercial vehicles.

What happened

Investigators say a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling south.

The truck was hauling production water.

A 57-year-old man from Watford City was driving.

The Highway Patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.

A 2019 Kenworth was traveling north.

It carried a hot oil tank.

It was towing a pup trailer.

The pup trailer also carried production water.

A 51-year-old man from Dickinson was driving.

Restraint use in that truck is still under review.

Troopers say the Volvo crossed the center line on a curve.

It struck the Kenworth head-on.

Both drivers died at the scene.

Authorities have not released the drivers’ names.

Officials reported a small spill of production water.

Crews worked to secure the area.

They also handled cleanup needs.

Road closure

Highway 22 northbound was closed after the crash.

The closure ran from mile marker 119 to mile marker 130.

The road reopened around 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time.

Agencies on scene

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.

The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

Killdeer Ambulance assisted at the scene.

West Dunn Fire Department also responded.

The Dunn County Emergency Manager was notified.
